What the Hell Is Happening in Venezuela?

What the Hell Is Happening in Venezuela?

Here’s what’s interesting about this vote: When this group gets created, it will have even more power than the president. It’s been clear for a long time that Maduro isn’t popular among everybody on the left. So it’s entirely possible that this body could remove Maduro and put somebody else in charge of the country. It’s a total Pandora’s Box as to what happens next.

What the Hell Is Happening in Venezuela?

What the Hell Is Happening in Venezuela?Maduro wants to create a new body called a constituent assembly, which is not just going to rewrite the constitution — but they’re going to be allowed to rule the country until they produce a constitution. So, the long-term effect is there’s going to be a new constitution. The short-term effect is that Maduro is going to be establishing a new government that’s going to sit above all branches of government, could dismiss them, could dismantle them, could radically change how the country is run even before this new constitution is revealed. The most likely target of this group once it gets to power is Venezuela’s parliament, the National Assembly, which is controlled by the opposition.

Colombia said it will not recognize the result of what it called Venezuela's "illegitimate" assembly vote.

In Hungary, a crack opened up between two communist factions that led to a regime change. In Romania, dictator Nicolae Ceausescu was captured, sentenced and executed. In the Soviet Union, the communist bureaucracy produced Gorbachev, a reformist who was surpassed by the forces he had set in motion. When retrograde factions tried to turn the clock back, other reformist leaders, particularly Boris Yeltsin, prevailed, and the rest is history.
But we have never seen what just happened in Venezuela before --an opposition mounting a successful nationwide referendum in defense of its current constitution, against the hostility of a government that no longer thinks its own Chavez-created constitution is enough to guarantee its perpetuity. Is this the beginning of the end for Chavismo and Maduro? Will this turn out to be one of contemporary history's most fascinating transitions to liberal democracy?

Last weekend's opposition-organized referendum marks a fascinating contrast with other types of transitions to liberal democracy (if this indeed turns out to be the outcome). Chile's Augusto Pinochet also left power after a referendum, but it was one he had organized himself. In Poland, the government, exhausted by the general strikes called by Solidarity, eventually opened negotiations with Lech Walesa's famous union in the late 1980s.

John McCain’s 1969 “Tokyo Rose” Propaganda Recording Released

(VERO BEACH, FL) U.S. Senator John McCain recorded a Tokyo Rose-style propaganda message that was broadcast on North Vietnamese radio in 1969.

TRUNEWS, a nonprofit Christian digital news app, obtained the bombshell audio recording and released it today on the organization’s daily newscast hosted by Rick Wiles. TRUNEWS acquired the audio recording in cooperation with WeSearchR.com, a new media company founded by Charles Johnson.

The 1969 North Vietnamese radio broadcast has never been heard in the United States of America. In fact, there has never been any knowledge that such a recording existed. The audio recording was found in a misplaced file in the National Archives in Washington, D.C. The broadcast was recorded by the Foreign Broadcast Information Service, a branch of the CIA that monitored international shortwave and foreign radio broadcasts.

Lt. Commander John McCain was shot down over Hanoi by a North Vietnamese missile while flying his 23rd bombing mission. Both of his arms and one leg were broken. He was pulled ashore by North Vietnamese who took him to a prison known by POWs as the “Hanoi Hilton.”

McCain was a prisoner of war for five and a half years. He was released on March 14, 1973, and returned to the United States of America as a war hero. His POW legacy propelled McCain to victory in a race for a U.S. Congressional seat in Arizona in 1982. He replaced Barry Goldwater in the Senate in 1986.

In the propaganda recording, Lt. Commander McCain said he was “guilty of crimes against the Vietnamese country and people.” He confessed that he bombed “their cities, towns, and villages and caused many injuries, even deaths, for the people of Vietnam.”

He praised the medical care and kindness of his communist captors even though he came to North Vietnam as “an aggressor.” McCain said he wished to express his “deep gratitude” for their “kind treatment” and that he “will never forget” the kindness extended to him by the communist North Vietnamese.

The Bizarre Hacking Scandal That Democrats And The Press Are Happy To Ignore | Stock News & Stock Market Analysis - IBD

The Bizarre Hacking Scandal That Democrats And The Press Are Happy To Ignore | Stock News & Stock Market Analysis - IBD
Scandal: When federal officials arrested Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz's IT aide, Imran Awan, as he tried to flee for his native Pakistan, it was the latest twist to an already twisted scandal involving several House IT workers who possibly stole highly sensitive information from several Democrats. Stranger still has been the Democrats' nonresponse to this unfolding scandal.

Autoplay: On | OffBack in February, the Capitol Hill police opened a criminal investigation into Awan and four other House employees who provided IT services for several Democrats, including those serving on the House intelligence, foreign affairs and homeland security committees.

Investigators were looking into whether these employees, who had access to emails and official documents of dozens of Democratic lawmakers, had stolen equipment and sent information to an off-site server. The police immediately shut off their access to the House network.

From there, the story got weirder with every new revelation.

It turned out that the other four being investigated were relatives of Awan — two brothers, his wife, and a sister-in-law. Then we learned that Awan's bothers owed money to a Hezbollah-connected fugitive, and a friend of Awan's had been working at McDonald's before getting hired as an IT professional by Congressional Democrats.

What's more, they were pulling down unusually large salaries of around $160,000, according to the Daily Caller, which is the only news outlet that has been actively pursuing this story. Together, Awan and his family raked in $4 million between 2009 and 2016, the DC reported, for what at times appeared to be "no show" jobs.

Then, a month after the investigation was made public, Awan's wife took her children out of school and fled the country for Qatar. Earlier in the year, Awan wire transferred $283,000 to two people in Pakistan. More recently, the FBI found smashed hard drives and other equipment at Awan's home.

How these people were able to get high-paying, highly sensitive jobs with dozens of House Democrats over the years is a mystery.

Then there's Schultz's odd reaction to these events. After learning of the investigation, Schultz kept Awan on her payroll. In fact, she didn't fire him until this Tuesday, the day after he was arrested at the airport.

Also, after the Capital Police seized a computer related to their investigation of Awan — which Awan apparently hid in a crevice of the Rayburn House Office Building — Schultz demanded that they return it. She even spent several minutes of a Capital Police budget hearing hectoring the police chief to return the laptop and threatening "consequences" if he didn't. Only recently did Schultz's attorney begin negotiating with the police over access to that laptop.

Other Democrats have been utterly indifferent to the whole affair. At one point, Rep. Gregory Meeks suggested the police targeted Awan and his bothers because of Islamophobia, the DC reported. That led some congressional staffers to wonder if Awan and company were blackmailing House members with data they'd pilfered.

And, of course, since Democrats don't want this story in the news, the mainstream "news" media have entirely ignored it. Neither the New York Times, the Washington Post nor CNN appear to have published a single story on this case since it broke five months ago.

What does this all add up to? Nobody knows at the moment. Once the FBI is able to examine the equipment Awan tried to destroy, we might learn more about the parameters of this strange and troubling case. Until then, it would be helpful if Democrats and the press were to take it seriously and start pressing for answers.

Google Instant Search is dead | Android Central

First launched just way back in 2010, Google Instant Search was supposed to be the future of search, saving countless precious seconds each day by loading results dynamically as you typed, freeing users from the chains of the enter key. The feature was big news at the time — and not just in the tech world, but the broader online and traditional media as well. Instant demonstrated the technical prowess of Google at the time, and the continuing strength of its core product.

Corbyn Admits Mass Migration Has Been Used to ‘Destroy’ Conditions for British Workers - Breitbart

A Labour government would leave the Single Market, Jeremy Corbyn has claimed, admitting that European Union (EU) freedom of movement rules have damaged workers’ conditions.

Speaking on the Andrew Marr programme, the Labour leader ruled out staying in the Single Market because it was “inextricably linked” to EU membership, saying the country should seek a tariff-free trade deal instead.

Asked about his party’s attitude to EU immigration after Brexit, Corbyn claimed Labour would put a stop to the “wholesale importation of low-paid workers from central Europe,” admitting that this “destroys conditions” for British workers in industries like construction.

Your energy bills could be controlled by Google or Amazon under Government plans for 'peak pricing'

Your energy bills could be controlled by Google or Amazon under Government plans for 'peak pricing'

Under the arrangements suppliers will be able to switch consumer's appliances - like TVs and washing machines - on or off during times of high or low demand.

The scheme is designed to save billions in electricity bills, but it is likely to raise further questions on privacy and data security for households who choose to move to such contracts to reduce their bills.

Such tariffs will lead to householders paying more for watching television, charging gadgets and running the dishwasher during morning and evening “rush hours”.

To choose to sign up to the scheme consumers must first have a smart meter installed, which transmit information about when a household uses most energy to suppliers, giving them the power to increase bills at busy times.
