Latin American Herald Tribune - Chinese Scientists Develop All-Weather Solar Panels

BEIJING - A team of researchers from two Chinese universities have developed solar panels capable of generating power on days of low-sunshine, rain, fog and even during the night, reported official newspaper People's Daily Monday.

"Solar cell research is mainly focused on elevating photoelectric conversion efficiency upon direct sunlight until new light has been shed on persistent high-efficiency power generation in poor light conditions such as rain, fog, haze and night," said Tang Qunwei, a professor from the Ocean University of China, one of the two institutions heading the project.

Another team, led by Prof. Yang Peizhi from Yunnan Normal University is also participating in building these solar cells, which the Chinese official media claim could constitute a "photovoltaic revolution".
