‘And Yes, Obama Will Go All “Captain Queeg” On The Country’ | The Camp Of The Saints

If the GOP takes control of the Senate, Roger Simon thinks that ‘Barack Hussein Obama’* is going to go Postal:
This man is angry but highly unlikely to go into an anger management program.  Imagine what will happen after November.  We could be looking at behavior that would fit the very definition of “acting out,” anti-social but on a global scale.  And he still has two more years in office.

Schizophrenia

There is no evidence that people with autism spectrum conditions are any more likely than anyone else to develop schizophrenia (Wing, 1996).
It is also important to realise that people have been diagnosed as having schizophrenia when, in fact, they have Asperger syndrome. This is because their 'odd' behaviour or speech pattern, or the person's strange accounts or interpretations of life, are seen as a sign of mental illness, such as schizophrenia. Obsessional thoughts can become quite bizarre during mood swings and these can be seen as evidence of schizophrenia rather than the mood disorder that actually are. However, should someone with Asperger syndrome experience hallucinations or delusions that they find distressing, conventional antipsychotic medications can be prescribed. However, it is recommended that only the newer atypical antipsychotics are used, as people with Asperger syndrome often have mild movement disorders (Carpenter, 2001). Cognitive behaviour therapy and other psychological management methods may be effective.

Germany Scraps Tuition Fees | True Activist

Germany Scraps Tuition Fees | True Activist

All German universities will offer free higher education starting this week, after the region of Lower Saxony changed its policies to fit with the rest of the country. German policy-makers say that free university education for all is a basic right, and that tuition fees are unfair and discourage poorer students from continuing with their education.
“Tuition fees are socially unjust,” said Dorothee Stapelfeldt, senator for science in Hamburg, a region which scrapped fees back in 2012. “It is a core task of politics to ensure that young women and men can study with a high quality standard free of charge in Germany.”

Myst (series) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Myst's story concerns an explorer named Atrus who has the ability to write books which serve as links to other worlds, known as Ages. This practice of creating linking books was developed by an ancient civilization known as the D'ni, whose society crumbled after being ravaged by disease. The player takes the role of an unnamed person referred to as the Stranger and assists Atrus by traveling to other Ages and solving puzzles. Over the course of the series Atrus writes a new Age for the D'ni survivors to live on, and players of the games set the course the civilization will follow.

Cenobite (Hellraiser) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Cenobites are extradimensional beings who appear in the works of Clive Barker, including the novella The Hellbound Heart and the nine Hellraiser films. They are also mentioned, in passing, in the novel Weaveworld, in which they are referred to as “The Surgeons.”
The Cenobites vary in number, appearance, and motivations depending on the medium (film, comic book, etc.) in which they appear. The involvement of multiple parties in the production of Hellraiser films and comics (many eschewing the creative supervision of Clive Barker) has led to varying levels of consistency regarding the canonical aspects of their philosophies and abilities. The only constants are that they take the form of ritually mutilated creatures with varying degrees of human characteristics, and that they can only reach Earth's reality through a schism in time and space, which is opened and closed using an innocuous-looking puzzle box called the Lament Configuration.

Thync's neurosignalling wearable will change your mind -- literally | VentureBeat | Business | by Mark Sullivan

Wearable devices are everywhere. Most use sensor technology to measure things your body is or isn’t doing. Another class of devices, like insulin pumps, takes action on the measurement data to change some condition in the body.
One Los Gatos, Calif.-based company, Thync, is developing wearable devices in that second class, but the body part being acted upon is the mind.
The company says its startups use neurosignaling algorithms — waveforms that signal neural pathways — to shift and optimize the wearer’s state of mind in areas related to energy, calm, and focus. Thync says its device taps directly into the user’s brain.
In short, the device sends low-grade electronic or ultrasound signals to the cranial nerves, which send information to the brain. The Thync device can currently send three types of signal: one for calm, one for focus, and one for energy. You can control the type and intensity of the signal using an app on your phone.
Thync represents the consumerization of a technique called transcranial direct-current stimulation (tDCS) that doctors have been using for years to treat depression, head injuries, learning disabilities, and poor memory.
Now it will be used for serving up good vibes.
The company says it has raised $13 million in venture funding from Khosla Ventures since it launched in 2011. “Thync is at the groundbreaking intersection of neuroscience and consumer technology,” said Khosla Ventures’ Samir Kaul in a statement.
Thync was founded by engineering and neuroscience experts from Stanford, Harvard, and MIT. The company says it’s built “a safe, effective, aesthetically designed lifestyle device that anyone can use.”
The wearables market is projected to top more than $7 billion in 2015, with an estimated 300 million wearables to be shipped. Thync says its technology platform comprises neurosignaling algorithms, hardware, software, and biomaterials.
Thync’s founders say their product can be seen as an alternative to mood-altering drugs such as alcohol or caffeine.
