Freedom's Lighthouse » Obama Speaks on Airstrikes vs. ISIS; Says He Did not make Decision to Pullout All U.S. Troops from Iraq; Commits to Long-Term Operation vs. ISIS – Video 8/9/14

Obama bristled at questions on whether he regretted his decision to pull all U.S. Troops out of Iraq in 2011 – which has allowed ISIS to maraud through the country – and his answer is a bald-faced lie. Obama essentially said it was not his decision! He has repeatedly crowed about pulling all U.S. Troops out of Iraq, but now it was not his decision – it was the decision of the Iraqi Government. Obama knows the truth, which is that he deliberately orchestrated things so that Iraq would reject his pathetic offer to leave a tiny force in Iraq.

Insurer's Drop in Small-Group Plans Looks LIke Obamacare Trend

More Americans are enrolled in individual health insurance plans. In part, though, that’s because under Obamacare fewer are enrolled in group plans. And one health care analyst says this may be the beginning of a trend.
WellPoint Inc., the Indianapolis-based health insurance giant, reported in its latest quarterly earnings that its small-group business fell more than expected.
WellPoint said it ended 218,000 (or 12 percent) of those plans because employers dropped their group health coverage, and cited Obamacare’s tax credits as a reason for the shift,  J.K. Wall wrote in the Indianapolis Business Journal.

Obama Less Than Two Months Ago: “The World Is Less Violent Than It Has Ever Been”… | Weasel Zippers

More than 100K dead in Syria, civil war in Ukraine, and now genocide in Iraq.
[T]he truth of the matter is that for all the challenges we face, all the problems that we have, if you had to be — if you had to choose any moment to be born in human history, not knowing what your position was going to be, who you were going to be, you’d choose this time. The world is less violent than it has ever been. It is healthier than it has ever been. It is more tolerant than it has ever been. It is better fed then it’s ever been. It is more educated than it’s ever been.

Currency woes fuel rising Bitcoin use in Vietnam | Asian Correspondent

What may be further driving Bitcoin’s popularity is Vietnam’s attempt to reduce the “dollarization” of its economy by prohibiting merchants from pricing goods in dollars and cracking down on the black market trade in dollars. Despite these actions, many sellers of high-end goods, such as apartments and cars, still prefer to receive payment in a currency other than dong. Bitcoin could be the perfect payment system for these types of transactions.

On the heels of Vietnam’s first online Bitcoin trading floor going live last month, the virtual currency is being accepted by more and more merchants in the country. Distrust over the value of the Vietnamese dong is further fueling this growth.

Obama Defends His Use Of Executive Power - Business Insider

Obama Defends His Use Of Executive Power - Business Insider

President Barack Obama defended his use of executive power as a means to bypass gridlock in Congress during a press conference at the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit on Wednesday.

"The American people don't want me just standing around twiddling my thumbs and waiting for Congress to get something done," Obama said.
The president repeatedly indicated he would prefer to work with Congress to find legislative solutions on a slew of issues including funding for federal infrastructure projects and the border crisis. However, in the face of what he described as "dysfunction" in Congress, Obama said he would "scour our authority to try to make progress" within the bounds of the law.
"I'm going to seize those opportunities and that's what I think the American people expect me to do," said Obama.
Obama was also specifically asked whether he would take executive action and bypass Congress to eliminate so-called corporate inversions, where companies merge with a foreign business in order to shift their tax base out of the country. The president, who has repeatedly spoken out against inversions, said he could not "solve the entire problem administratively," but he said he was "examining" potential ways to address the issue.

Obama claims Palestinian Authority has recognized Israel, praises Mahmoud Abbas as ‘sincere for peace’ » The Right Scoop -

Obama praises the Palestinian Authority and Mahmoud Abbas while claiming to have no sympathy for Hamas. But shouldn’t we remind Obama that the PA just joined a unity government with Hamas and that this move infuriated Netanyahu and ensured that the peace process was dead? Just last year Abbas claimed that there was no difference between the ‘peaceful’ policies of Hamas and the PA as he questioned why Hamas was labeled a terrorist organization — an organization that has written into its charter the annihilation of the Jews and the Jewish state.
Also, the PA has NOT recognized the State of Israel, as Obama claims. Here’s video from just over 4 months ago where Abbas is adamant that the PA will not recognize the State of Israel. This is the one overriding thing that has been hampering negotiations, that the PA refuses to acknowledge the state of Israel.

“I’m sorry, you didn’t lose it,” Beck said on his radio program. “You couldn't lose money that fast. You couldn’t. That is being funneled somewhere. The question should be … not who lost the money, but where is it?”

Obamacare subsidies for people who don't have Obamacare | The Daily Caller

Obamacare subsidies for people who don't have Obamacare | The Daily Caller

The Obama administration announced Thursday that states with faulty Obamacare enrollment websites will be able to “retroactively” give taxpayer subsidies to people who signed up for private insurance plans off the Obamacare exchanges.
The administration’s executive decision to make Obamacare tax credits, which count as subsidies, available to non-Obamacare customers was slammed Friday by House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee Chairman Rep. Joe Pitts.
“It is outrageous for the Obama administration to be quietly telling states: pay subsidies now, worry about the paperwork later. The administration is blatantly ignoring the law, paying subsidies to plans outside of exchanges,” Pitts said.
“Additionally, this ‘pay now, verify later’ directive could be a boon for fraudsters, raising the administration’s unaccountability to the likes we have not seen. Once again, the self-proclaimed ‘most transparent administration in history’ is caught trying to hide another change from the public. The unilateral delays and changes have been rampant. The American people deserve better – they deserve fairness for all,” Pitts said.
“I applaud the federal government for its efforts to make this financial assistance available for more Oregonians,” said Democratic Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber, whose state’s Obamacare enrollment figures as of last Friday registered at less than 800. Oracle, the current contractor on the “Cover Oregon” website, moved 100 out of approximately 165 programmers off the project Friday.

Xi's 'shockingly harsh' Politburo speech signals tensions over anti-graft crackdown | South China Morning Post

Xi, in the same Politburo meeting, called on the party’s discipline investigators to inspect regions where he had worked, to prove that the campaign was not a political purge but was for the sake of the party’s future.
Both Shanghai and Zhejiang, in which Xi served as party chief, are included in the latest round of team inspections announced in July.
During the meeting in late June, Xi also urged leaders to learn from former premier Zhu Rongji, whose anti-corruption fight and economic reform earned praise.
Zhu, an outspoken politician, famously said in 1998: “Prepare 100 caskets and leave one for me. I’m ready to perish together in this fight if it brings the nation long-term economic stability and the public’s trust in our government.”

How Barack Obama lost Iraq - Atlanta Conservative | Examiner.com

Iraq’s slide back into chaos has its roots in 2011 when the last U.S. soldiers left the country. The Obama Administration and the government of Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki had been engaged in months of negotiations in an attempt to reach a new status of forces agreement that would allow American soldiers to remain in Iraq to help support government forces. (The Bush Administration had signed a status of forces agreement that required U.S. combat troops to leave Iraq by Dec. 31, 2011.) When these talks failed, the stage was set for President Obama to fulfill his campaign promise to remove U.S. forces and end the war in Iraq.

$619 billion missing from federal transparency site | KING5.com Seattle

WASHINGTON — A government website intended to make federal spending more transparent is missing at least $619 billion from 302 federal programs, a government audit has found.

And the data that does exist is wildly inaccurate, according to the Government Accountability Office, which looked at 2012 spending data. Only 2% to 7% of spending data on USASpending.gov is "fully consistent with agencies' records," according to the report.

Among the data missing from the 6-year-old federal website:

• The Department of Health and Human Services failed to report nearly $544 billion, mostly in direct assistance programs like Medicare. The department admitted that it should have reported aggregate numbers of spending on those programs.

• The Department of the Interior did not report spending for 163 of its 265 assistance programs because, the department said, its accounting systems were not compatible with the data formats required by USASpending.gov. The result: $5.3 billion in spending missing from the website.

• The White House itself failed to report any of the programs it's directly responsible for. At the Office of National Drug Control Policy, which is part of the White House, officials said they thought HHS was responsible for reporting their spending.

For more than 22% of federal awards, the spending website literally doesn't know where the money went. The "place of performance" of federal contracts was most likely to be wrong.

That's a problem, said Sen. Tom Carper, D-Del., the chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee.

"We live in a world in which information drives decisions," Carper said. "And, given the budget constraints that our government faces, we need reliable information on how and where our money is being spent."

The report comes as the Obama administration begins to implement the Digital Accountability and Transparency Act, which Congress passed last year to expand the amount of federal spending data available to the public.

The report said the Office of Management and Budget needed to exercise greater oversight of federal agencies reporting spending data. "Until these weaknesses are addressed, any effort to use the data will be hampered by uncertainties about accuracy," the report said.

OMB spokesman Jamal Brown said the administration is already working to improve the data following the passage of the DATA Act last year. "OMB is committed to federal spending transparency and working with agencies to improve the completeness and accuracy of data submissions," he said in a statement.

The administration is also transferring responsibility for the website from the General Services Administration to the Bureau of the Fiscal Service in the Department of the Treasury.

» Agri-Terrorism? Feds Shut Down Seed Library in Pennsylvania : Infowars

In yet another example of the federal government’s war on self-sufficiency, the U.S. Department of Agriculture shut down a seed library in Pennsylvania, claiming that a system whereby residents could borrow heirloom seeds and then replace them at harvest time was a violation of the 2004 Seed Act, while a commissioner warned that such behavior could lead to “agri-terrorism.”
When the Cumberland County Library System set up the facility at Mechanicsburg’s Joseph T. Simpson Public Library back in April, they thought it would be a useful way for locals to borrow seeds and replace them at the end of the growing season, encouraging residents to learn more about growing their own food and acquiring key self-sufficiency skills.
Following in the footsteps of similar initiatives across the state, the library system was careful to check that they were doing everything by the book and not breaking any laws as well as meeting with the county extension office.
However, the deadly threat posed by the seed library was soon made clear when the U.S. Department of Agriculture sent a letter telling the library system that they were in violation of the 2004 Seed Act, which regulates the selling of seeds (the library was not selling them), under the justification of preventing the growth of invasive plant species, cross-pollination and poisonous plants.
“The commissioners were equally flabbergasted by the change of events, as well as with how the agriculture department handled the investigation — sending a high-ranking official and lawyers to a meeting with the library,” reports the Cumberlink Sentinel.
Feds told the library system that they would have to test each individual seed packet in order for the facility to continue, an impossible task, which meant that the seed library was shut down.
Cumberland County Library System Executive Director Jonelle Darr was told that the USDA would, “continue to crack down on seed libraries that have established themselves in the state.”
Cumberland County Commissioner Barbara Cross applauded the USDA’s decision, warning that allowing residents to borrow seeds could have led to acts of “agri-terrorism.”
The library has abandoned the seed system and instead can only promote events where residents are encouraged to directly swap seeds with each other.
“Gosh, this makes me wonder when they are going to crack down on all of those GMO fields, with their grave concerns about cross-pollination,” writes Daisy Luther. “Look out, Monsanto…oh, wait. This only applies to regular people growing vegetables. GMOs aren’t considered an invasive species.”
While the USDA is busy cracking down on local seed libraries in the name of preventing cross-pollination, many accuse the federal agency of being completely in the pocket of biotech giant Monsanto, which itself has been responsible for cross-pollinating farmers’ crops with genetically modified seeds on an industrial scale.
Monsanto is also responsible for creating Agent Orange and PCBs, neither of which can be considered to have had a positive environmental impact.
David Swanson goes further, arguing that Monsanto is, “responsible for environmental disasters that have destroyed entire towns, and a driving force behind the international waves of suicides among farmers whose lives it has helped ruin,” and that the company, “has monopolized our food system largely by taking over regulatory agencies like the U.S. Department of Agriculture.”
The Obama administration has also appointed numerous former Monsanto executives to key roles within the USDA, leading to accusations that the federal agency is merely a water carrier for Monsanto which acts to eliminate its competition, no matter how small scale.
It seems that while the U.S. government, via USAID, as well as huge corporations like DuPont and the Rockefeller Foundation, fund the creation of monolithic ‘doomsday’ seed vaults in the event of an environmental catastrophe, any attempt by ordinary Americans to become self-sufficient by obtaining their own heirloom seeds will be countered with the full legal force of the federal bureaucracy.

Third of all, because this increase seems to come as an isolated measure and not within the set of indispensable adjustments needed to take the first steps to revive the economy, serving only to ease the pressure on PDVSA of having to generate bolivars for the recurrent expenditure of the Government.

Fourth of all, because it is already expected that not a single measure will be applied in order to ease the impact of the cost of living on Venezuelans.

It is also true that this discussion has been postponed for many years after being considered a hot issue for causing a social explosion that took place on February 27, 1989 dubbed as “Caracazo.” In addition, the issue was particularly ignored by the government of the late Hugo Chávez, who sheltered behind the oil bonanza of the past 15 years to embark on his extravagant revolutionary journey.

Now, this misguided and irresponsible postponement of applying a policy that brings gas prices into line has made matters worse for Maduro. Today he finds himself facing a dramatic reality: Resources obtained from state-run oil company PDVSA are no longer enough to keep feeding the huge revolutionary monster; the spiral of loans no longer circulates to the pace of the insatiable needs of continental “Bolivarianism” and the entire country is against the wall because of high inflation, declining production and massive shortages.

If approved, the plan would direct the government to screen thousands of children and youths in Honduras to see if they can enter the United States as refugees or on emergency humanitarian grounds. It would be the first American refugee effort in a nation reachable by land to the United States, the White House said, putting the violence in Honduras on the level of humanitarian emergencies in Haiti and Vietnam, where such programs have been conducted in the past amid war and major crises.
