Obama’s Long Malaise | ACU

Obama’s Long Malaise | ACU: On October 9, 2007, the Dow Jones Industrial Average recorded an all-time high close of 14,164. Since then it has been all downhill, not just for the stock market but for the American economy, and it is liberals like Barack Obama who are to blame. What stands out is not just the tepid recovery we have experienced but the sense that there is no end in sight to the current economic malaise. Not since Jimmy Carter has an incumbent president with such bad numbers run his campaign on the premise that the public demands more of the same.

That’s stunning because it’s playing in 2/3 fewer theaters across North American than the other wide release actioners. (See below for more details).

“The thought police are here my friends…”
But that won’t stop Islamophiles, particularly the media, from screaming “hate crime” at the top of their lungs even when they know it isn’t (especially when Muslims fake the crimes then report them to CAIR, the media, FBI and local police – in that order).
The title of this post is the title of a pamphlet exposing the farcical concept of “Islamophobia” and how it was created to silence critics of Islam…and spread sharia law unimpeded. Read it from the image on the right of our homepage.

Gil Scott-Heron:Work For Peace Lyrics - Lyric Wiki - song lyrics, music lyrics

Back when Eisenhower was the President,
Golf courses was where most of his time was spent.
So I never really listened to what the President said,
Because in general I believed that the General was politically dead.
But he always seemed to know when the muscles were about to be flexed,
Because I remember him saying something, mumbling something about a Military Industrial Complex.
Americans no longer fight to keep their shores safe,
Just to keep the jobs going in the arms making workplace.
Then they pretend to be gripped by some sort of political reflex,
But all they're doing is paying dues to the Military Industrial Complex.
The Military and the Monetary,
The Military and the Monetary,
The Military and the Monetary.
The Military and the Monetary,
get together whenever they think its necessary,
They turn our brothers and sisters into mercenaries, they are turning the planet into a cemetery.
The Military and the Monetary, use the media as intermediaries,
they are determined to keep the citizens secondary, they make so many decisions that are arbitrary.
We're marching behind a commander in chief,
who is standing under a spotlight shaking like a leaf.
but the ship of state had landed on an economic reef,
so we knew he was going to bring us messages of grief.
The Military and the Monetary,
were shielded by January and went storming into February,
Brought us pot bellied generals as luminaries,
two weeks ago I hadn't heard of the son of a bitch,
now all of a sudden he's legendary.
They took the honour from the honourary,
they took the dignity from the dignitaries,
they took the secrets from the secretary,
but they left the bitch in obituary.
The Military and the Monetary,
from thousands of miles away in a Saudi Arabian sanctuary,
had us all scrambling for our dictionaries,
cause we couldn't understand the fuckin vocabulary.
Yeah, there was some smart bombs,
but there was some dumb ones as well,
scared the hell out of CNN in that Baghdad hotel.
The Military and the Monetary,
they get together whenever they think its necessary,
War in the desert sometimes sure is scary,
but they beamed out the war to all their subsidiaries.
Tried to make So Damn Insane a worthy adversary,
keeping the citizens secondary,
scaring old folks into coronaries.
The Military and the Monetary,
from thousands of miles in a Saudi Arabian sanctuary,
kept us all wondering if all of this was really truely, necessary.
We've got to work for Peace,
Peace ain't coming this way.
If we only work for Peace,
If everyone believed in Peace the way they say they do,
we'd have Peace.
The only thing wrong with Peace,
is that you can't make no money from it.
The Military and the Monetary,
they get together whenever they think its necessary,
they've turned our brothers and sisters into mercenaries,
they are turning the planet, into a cemetery.
Got to work for Peace,
Peace ain't coming this way.
We should not allow ourselves to be mislead,
by talk of entering a time of Peace,
Peace is not the absence of war,
it is the absence of the rules of war and the threats of war and the preparation for war.
Peace is not the absence of war,
it is the time when we will all bring ourselves closer to each other,
closer to building a structure that is unique within ourselves
because we have finally come to Peace within ourselves.
The Military and the Monetary,
The Military and the Monetary,
The Military and the Monetary.
Get together whenever they think its necessary,
they've turned our brothers and sisters into mercenaries,
they are turning parts of the planet, into a cemetery.
The Military and the Monetary,
The Military and the Monetary,
We hounded the Ayatollah religiously,
Bombed Libya and killed Quadafi's son hideously.
We turned our back on our allies the Panamanians,
and saw Ollie North selling guns to the Iranians.
Watched Gorbachev slaughtering Lithuanians,
We better warn the Amish,
they may bomb the Pennsylvanians.
The Military and the Monetary,
get together whenever they think its necessary,
they have turned our brothers and sisters into mercenaries,
they are turning the planet, into a cemetery.
I don't want to sound like no late night commercial,
but its a matter of fact that there are thousands of children all over the world
in Asia and Africa and in South America who need our help.
When they start talking about 55 cents a day and 70 cents a day,
I know a lot of folks feel as though that,
thats not really any kind of contribution to make,
but we had to give up a dollar and a half just to get in the subway nowadays.
So this is a song about tommorrow and about how tommorrow can be better. if we all,
"Each one reach one, Each one try to teach one".
Nobody can do everything,
but everybody can do something,
everyone must play a part,
everyone got to go to work, Work for Peace.
Spirit Say Work, Work for Peace
If you believe the things you say, go to work.
If you believe in Peace, time to go to work.
Cant be wavin your head no more, go to work.

Noblesse oblige - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Noblesse oblige - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Noblesse oblige is a French phrase literally meaning "nobility obliges".

The Dictionnaire de l’Académie française defines it thus:

Whoever claims to be noble must conduct himself nobly.
(Figuratively) One must act in a fashion that conforms to one's position, and with the reputation that one has earned.

The Oxford English Dictionary says that the term "suggests noble ancestry constrains to honorable behavior; privilege entails to responsibility". Being a noble meant that one had responsibilities to lead, manage and so on. One was not to simply spend one's time in idle pursuits.

Conflict Minerals: Another of Dodd–Frank's Hidden Costs

Conflict Minerals: Another of Dodd–Frank's Hidden Costs: As The Wall Street Journal opined in July, this “conflict minerals” provision is a case study of “regulatory mission creep.” Where have we heard that before? Actually, it turns out that a great many efforts by do-gooders and nanny-state scolds seeking to impose Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) on the world’s “greedy” private sector end up with similarly negative outcomes. Good for bureaucrats, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), and other enablers. Bad for real people.

Christian Love

Christian Love

Christian Love - Christ's Commandment
What's at the heart of Christian love? Jesus said, "By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another" (John 13:35). John, inspired by the Holy Spirit, once wrote, "We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love his brother abides in death" (1 John 3:14). And "by this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome" (1 John 5:2-3).

Christian Love - Not a Feeling, a Lifestyle
So, what do these scriptures regarding "Christian love" really mean? Is it a warm fuzzy feeling? I don't have a warm fuzzy feeling for everyone I meet, Christian or otherwise -- does that mean I'm not saved? No, a "warm fuzzy feeling" is not the biblical definition for "love". So, what is the Biblical definition for love? Let's search the Scriptures and find out…

A Pharisaic lawyer once asked our Lord, "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?" Jesus said to him, 'You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets." (Matthew 22:36-40)

According to Matthew's Gospel, the very essence of the Law and the Prophets is to love God and to love others. And we see this term "the Law and the Prophets" used in one other place in Matthew's Gospel. It's in this passage that we find the Biblical definition for love: "Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets." (Matthew 7:12)

Would you want your wife to commit adultery? Would you want someone to murder you or to murder someone you love? Would you want someone to steal from you, lie to you, covet your possessions? Of course not! So don't go and do these things to other people! Paul, inspired by the Holy Spirit, commands us to "owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. For the commandments, 'You shall not commit adultery,' 'You shall not murder,' 'You shall not steal,' 'You shall not bear false witness,' 'You shall not covet,' and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law." (Romans 13:8-10)

In Luke's Gospel, Jesus elaborates on this "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" principle. He says, "Give to everyone who asks of you. And from him who takes away your goods do not ask them back. And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise. But if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive back, what credit is that to you? For even sinners lend to sinners to receive as much back. But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil. Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful." (Luke 6:30-36)
Christian Love - Selfless & Giving Love
Christian love is giving to others those things that you would want them to give you if you were in their situation -- and it's doing so even if they can't pay you back. In fact, it's doing so especially if they can't pay you back! Christian love is respect for others. It's mercy. It's charity.

When the King James translators came upon the Greek word agape (God's Love), in addition to using the English word "love" to transliterate it, they often chose the English word "charity." This was meant to reinforce the idea that agape is a selfless, giving love. God's Love is unselfish and unconditional. Now we know what is meant by Christian love. Now we know what to strive for…

Want Economic Prosperity for Everyone? Cut the TOP tax rates, not the bottom. | RedState

Want Economic Prosperity for Everyone? Cut the TOP tax rates, not the bottom. | RedState: But history has given us the blueprint for economic prosperity. After England’s failed experiment with massive taxes and government control of every major industry after World War II, the Brits had the good sense to finally elect Margaret Thatcher. She immediately took bold steps to return most industries to private sector control, and cut the top marginal tax rates. The result was a short period of painful readjustment, followed by a dramatic upturn in prosperity. Sadly, once Thatcher was gone, it wasn’t long before the socialists regained their influence, dragging England back into the economic doldrums.

Here at home, the disastrous affect of the presidency of Jimmy Carter was finally ended when Americans voted (in a landslide) for Ronald Reagan. And what did Reagan do? Did he pander to the parasite class by cutting the already low taxes of those at the bottom of the ladder, as Barak Obama persists in doing? Did Reagan spend the first 3 years of his presidency whining about “inheriting” a bad economy. Absolutely not.

EXCLUSIVE: Dance Troupe @ Obama-Khalidi Dinner (of Secreted Tape Fame) Simulated Beheadings in Recent Past

By Debbie Schlussel

As you all know, the Los Angeles Times is holding hostage a tape of Barack Obama at a 2003 Arab American Action Network (AAAN) dinner at which his friends, Rashid Khalidi, William Ayers, and Bernadine Dohrn were in attendance. It’s the story I started when Los Angeles Times plagiarist/”reporter” Peter Wallsten ripped off my January column on Barack Obama’s Nation of Islam staffers and friendship with AAAN founder Ali Abunimah.
But here’s what you haven’t yet heard: that a kids’ dance troupe that appeared at the event has a history of simulating beheadings and stomping on American, Israeli, and British flags.

sanabelalquds2.jpg

sanabelalqudsswords2.jpg

Sanabel AlQuds Dance Troupe with Sword Beheading Accessories

Reports of the partial guest list at the 2003 dinner include “the Sanabel Debka troupe”, but the group’s name is really “Sanabel AlQuds Dabka troupe.” Sanabel means “grains” or “kernels” (of wheat or barley) in Arabic. AlQuds, or “The Holy”, is the Muslim name for Jerusalem, which is ripped-off from the eternal Hebrew name for Jerusalem, “Ir Kadosh“, or Holy City.
The Milwaukee-based Muslim kids dancing troupe purports to perform the debka, a Middle-Eastern step-dance. But this group, made up of mostly Palestinian Muslims and under the auspices of the Milwaukee Muslim American Society does far more in its “performance.” And it’s frightening.
In June 2004, I went undercover and attended a Dearborn fundraising dinner for Islamic Relief, the Muslim Brotherhood charity that is a front for HAMAS and Al-Qaeda. The event was MC’ed by Rayed Tayeh, who orchestrated the Starbucks Coffee boycott and who is believed to be a HAMAS operative.
Sanabel AlQuds performed to songs calling for martyrdom to “get back Palestine.” The kids were young boys, some of them appearing to be no older than seven years old.
But they didn’t just dance the debkah.
Suddenly the Sanabel AlQuds dancers pulled out fake swords and rifles and adorned three of their troupe respectively with an American, Isreaeli, and British flag. The others pretended to behead and/or shoot the boys wearing the flags. Then they put red scarves over the three boys heads, signifying blood and no head. Then, the flags were taken off, thrown to the ground, and trampled on by this young group of Milwaukee dancers.
This was on the Sunday that U.S. contractor Paul Johnson was found beheaded in Saudi Arabia and not long after Nicholas Berg and several other westerners were found beheaded in Iraq.
Once I saw this “performance” I realized why there were signs all over saying, “No video equipment or cameras allowed.”
I wrote about this in 2004 in my review of “Fahrenheit 9/11″, because it featured Obama surrogate John Conyers who was at the Sanabel AlQuds performance and just loved it:
Take the June 13 Muslim American Society fundraising dinner for Islamic Relief, a charity with links to the Muslim Brotherhood. Conyers and his wife were the guests of honor. They watched and clapped as the Sanabel AlQuds “dancing” troop from Milwaukee–featuring boys as young as seven–sang in Arabic of martyrdom and jihad for Allah and Palestine. They didn’t need to understand Arabic, as the young boys used a rifle to simulate killing and pistol-whipping, simulated throat-slittings and beheadings, and dishonored the American flag.
Some pictures of Sanabel AlQuds Dabka troupe hint at some of this and show the kids dancing with swords (see above).
I also wrote about it in August 2006, because I’m sick and tired of the tens of millions the Mormon Church, the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, has been giving this group, Islamic Relief:
The evening’s “entertainment” consisted of young boys–some apparently as young as seven–simulating beheadings and shootings of other young boys who donned the American, Israeli, and British flags. Then they put red scarves over their heads to symbolize blood . . . and no head.
While I do not know if Sanabel AlQuds performed this particular “dance” for Barack and Michelle Obama and other guests at this dinner, I know that this was their performance in the summer of 2004, just a year after the dinner that is the subject of the videotape the Los Angeles Times will not release. It may be that this same “act” was performed for the Obamas, but that it was not part of the tape, which would be why L.A. Times plagiarist/”reporter” Peter Wallsten did not write about it.
Still, why is Barack Obama hanging out with young kids who simulate beheadings of Americans and Jews on a regular basis?
Maybe they can perform their unique, halal version of the debka at an Inaugural Ball. I’m sure the Secret Service would make an allowance for the swords . . . for the sake of political correctness.

Many doctors will stop taking Medicare patients | SeacoastOnline.com: Let's talk simply. The undisputed $716 billion being cut from Medicare is so that money can be used to pay for the new people Obamacare is planning to cover.

It comes out of doctor and hospital reimbursements, which simply means that many doctors will stop taking Medicare patients because the government is not going to pay for even the cost to care for them.

The same with hospitals, except the hospitals will just go out of business.

In other words, many, many current seniors on Medicare will not be serviced. This is how President Obama is saying he will reduce costs. Ignoring the needs of the "too old" seniors.

There is a much better way and that is the Ryan/Wyden plan.

Ryan's plan would offer federal money to cover premiums equal to the second lowest bidder -- an amount updated every year -- meaning seniors would always have at least two choices of plans at no cost.

The phrase is derived from the French bon vivant, meaning good living, a bon viveur being a "good liver", or one who lives well.[1] The phrase is not derogatory but conveys a sense of overindulgence.[2] In his book, Mind the Gaffe, professor Larry Trask advised that the phrase is pretentious.[3]

The phrase was used as a byline by the famous cooking couple, Fanny and Johnnie Cradock, for their column in The Daily Telegraph.

Bankers didn’t mention that they took tens of billions of dollars in emergency loans at the same time they were assuring investors their firms were healthy. And no one calculated until now that banks reaped an estimated $13 billion of income by taking advantage of the Fed’s below-market rates, Bloomberg Markets magazine reports in its January issue.

Instead, they incite the Democratic mob to hate Republicans by accusing them of wanting to kill old people.

According to a 2009 report -- before Obama added another $5 trillion to the national debt -- Obama's own treasury secretary, Tim Geithner, stated that in less than 10 years, spending on major entitlement programs, plus interest payments on the national debt, would consume 92 cents of every dollar in federal revenue.

The Obama Temptation - By Mark R. Levin - The Corner - National Review Online

The Obama Temptation - By Mark R. Levin - The Corner - National Review Online: There is a cult-like atmosphere around Barack Obama, which his campaign has carefully and successfully fabricated, which concerns me. The messiah complex. Fainting audience members at rallies. Special Obama flags and an Obama presidential seal. A graphic with the portrayal of the globe and Obama’s name on it, which adorns everything from Obama’s plane to his street literature. Young school children singing songs praising Obama. Teenagers wearing camouflage outfits and marching in military order chanting Obama’s name and the professions he is going to open to them. An Obama world tour, culminating in a speech in Berlin where Obama proclaims we are all citizens of the world. I dare say, this is ominous stuff.

Even the media are drawn to the allure that is Obama. Yes, the media are liberal. Even so, it is obvious that this election is different. The media are open and brazen in their attempts to influence the outcome of this election. I’ve never seen anything like it. Virtually all evidence of Obama’s past influences and radicalism — from Jeremiah Wright to William Ayers — have been raised by non-traditional news sources.

Blood Meridian - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Blood Meridian - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: Blood Meridian or the Evening Redness in the West is a 1985 Western novel by American author Cormac McCarthy. McCarthy's fifth book, it was published by Random House.

The narrative follows an adolescent run-away referred to only as "the kid", with the bulk of the text devoted to his experiences with the Glanton gang, a historical group of scalp hunters who massacred North American tribes and others in the United States–Mexico borderlands in 1849 and 1850. The role of antagonist is gradually filled by Judge Holden, a large, intelligent man depicted as entirely devoid of hair and emblematic of violence and conflict.

Although the novel initially generated only lukewarm critical and commercial reception, it has since become highly acclaimed and is widely recognized as McCarthy's masterpiece.[1]

Time magazine included the novel in its TIME 100 Best English-language Novels from 1923 to 2005.[2]

It's not very important in their lives. It's entertainment they turn to when they want to vege out. I think it's the same with politics.

The difference is when you get to Washington, everyone has something to do with it. It's an industry town and your industry is government.

The Fencing Master is presented in the third person with the focus on the protagonist.

Ozymandias by Percy Bysshe Shelley

Ozymandias by Percy Bysshe Shelley:
I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: "Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown
And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal these words appear:
`My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings:
Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!'
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away".

The Obamacare-Triggered State Tax Hikes of 2015 - By Jim Geraghty - The Campaign Spot - National Review Online

The Obamacare-Triggered State Tax Hikes of 2015 - By Jim Geraghty - The Campaign Spot - National Review Online

The most recent issue of BusinessWeek features an article about how states are preparing to implement the changes of Obamacare. Besides the predictable problems – delays, computer systems that can’t sync, reaching people who are in good health who don’t want to purchase insurance — there’s the question of how states will fund the “health benefit exchanges,” a menu of insurance plans for the currently uninsured.
Maryland expects the federal government to fund the exchange through 2014. After that, they’re supposed to cover their own costs—for Maryland, about $40 million a year. The exchange board has until Dec. 1 to come up with a financing plan. [Anthony] Brown, Maryland’s lieutenant governor, gingerly hints at one way to pay for it: “[Even if] I don’t have children … I pay taxes that support public education.”
So… in addition to all of the other joys of Obamacare — the mandate, the IPAB panel deciding which lifesaving treatments are too expensive, the increase in premiums, the doctors quitting in frustration — we can add state tax increases coming in 2015. This is separate from the costs imposed on states by Obamacare’s expansion of Medicaid, and any state tax increases that are enacted as a result of that aspect of the president’s signature domestic policy legislation.

FactCheck.org : Obama’s ‘Boss’ Baloney

FactCheck.org : Obama’s ‘Boss’ Baloney

The Obama campaign strikes another low blow with a TV spot accusing Mitt Romney of “personally” approving a notoriously abusive tax-avoidance scheme and suggesting he may have paid “zero” tax. That’s badly misleading.
It wasn’t Romney who was avoiding taxes, it was Marriott Corp. And there’s no evidence to support the ad’s speculation that Romney himself paid no income tax, or that he did something illegal.
The ad opens with an unsupported insinuation that Romney isn’t releasing more federal income tax returns because some would show he didn’t pay any income tax in those years. The narrator asks, “Did Romney pay 10 percent in taxes? Five percent? Zero? We don’t know.” And the narrator might add, “We have no evidence to support what I just said.” But he doesn’t.
Instead, the narrator says, “But we do know that Romney personally approved over $70 million in fictional losses to the IRS as part of the notorious ‘Son of Boss’ scandal. One of the largest tax avoidance schemes in history.” On screen, we see similar quotes attributed to CNN, with the cable network’s logo prominently displayed. There’s so much deceit here we hardly know where to start.
  • The tax scheme didn’t benefit Romney, and the fictional losses were not his. The company involved was Marriott Corp, not Romney or Bain Capital. But the ad gives no hint of this.
  • CNN didn’t report this. Although the ad prominently features the CNN logo as the source of the printed quotes, they are actually the opinions of two outside tax experts with Democratic leanings.
  • Marriott isn’t solely responsible for “one of the largest tax avoidance schemes in history.” Viewers may get the mistaken impression that Romney — actually Marriott — is solely to blame for “one of the largest tax avoidance schemes in history.” Not true. It was a strategy used by many taxpayers that resulted in billions in lost revenue.
  • “Avoidance” is not illegal. The casual viewer may miss the important distinction between legal avoidance and illegal fraud or tax evasion. Combining “avoidance” with loaded terms like “scheme” and “notorious” and “scandal” and “fictional losses” further suggests possible tax fraud, but there’s no evidence Romney broke any law.
A viewer who squints hard might see that under the CNN logo, the ad attributes the quotes to an “op-ed” opinion piece by “Canellos & Kleinbard.” And as CNN notes on its site, in fine print, “The opinions expressed in this commentary are solely those of Peter C. Canellos and Edward D. Kleinbard.”
Who are they? Both are top-drawer tax experts, no doubt about that. Canellos is head of the tax department at a big New York law firm and former chair of the New York State Bar Association Tax Section. Kleinbard is a professor of law at the University of Southern California and a former chief of staff of the Joint Committee on Taxation of the U.S. Congress.
But both have given to Democratic candidates in the past, though neither is a major donor. Kleinbard’s only recorded donation to a federal candidate in the past five years is a $250 gift in 2010 to a local Southern California congressman, Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff of Burbank. Canellos gave a total of $6,300 during the same period, including $2,300 to the Obama campaign in 2008, $1,500 to former Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean’s “Democracy for America” committee and $1,250 to a couple of Democratic Party committees.
In their article, they recap reporting done back in February by Jesse Drucker of Bloomberg News. Drucker said Romney headed the audit committee of Marriott Corp. from 1993 to 1998, during which time the company started using a tax shelter known to attorneys by its nickname: “Son of Boss.” The company claimed $71 million in losses under that shelter, which the IRS challenged. Marriott sued, but lost in court, appealed, and lost again in 2009. The court sided with government lawyers who called the shelter “fictitious,” “artificial,” “spectral,” an “illusion” and a “scheme,” Drucker reported.
In their more recent CNN article, Canellos and Kleinbard argue that the IRS rejection of the shelter was “entirely predictable” and that it is “disingenuous” of Romney’s campaign staff to say that he relied on Marriott’s tax department and advisers. Romney had “the financial sophistication to understand the tax avoidance involved,” they argue.
They call Romney “an executive who was willing to go to the edge, if not beyond, to bend the rules to seek an unfair advantage” for Marriott. And they ask whether the same might be true of his personal taxes: “Did he augment his wealth through highly aggressive tax stratagems of questionable validity?”
But questioning someone’s wisdom or business ethics as a corporate director is one thing, while suggesting scandalous personal behavior is another. Canellos and Kleinbard offer their personal opinions and speculation, but the Obama campaign’s ad condenses all that into an unfair and misleading insinuation. The Son of Boss claims come immediately after the speculation about Romney’s personal income tax payments, and there is no transition to let viewers know the ad is no longer talking about Romney’s personal finances.
Romney’s refusal to release more than two years’ worth of tax returns — far fewer than most presidential candidates in recent history — leaves an opening for his opponents to speculate about what he may be hiding. And the ad is correct that we don’t know if, prior to 2010, Romney paid less than 13.9 percent of his income in taxes, as he did in 2010. But the fact is, Romney didn’t claim $70 million in fictional losses for himself, and there’s no direct evidence that he used abusive or illegal methods to reduce his own taxes to zero, as this ad strains to imply.

2,684-year-old human brain found in U.K. pit - International - Catholic Online

A human skull, estimated to be 2,684 years old has been discovered in the United Kingdom, containing a marvelously preserved human brain. The skull was recently discovered in a waterlogged U.K. pit. It's the oldest intact brain ever to be found in both Europe and Asia.
Scientists think that submersion in liquid, anoxic environments helps to preserve human brain tissue.
Scientists think that submersion in liquid, anoxic environments helps to preserve human brain tissue.
LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - "The early Iron Age skull belonged to a man, probably in his thirties," lead author Sonia O'Connor told Discovery News. "Cause of death is rarely possible to determine in archaeological remains, but in this case, damage to the neck vertebrae is consistent with a hanging."

Scientists think that submersion in liquid, anoxic environments helps to preserve human brain tissue.

Researchers theorize that the man was first hung in an execution. "The head was then carefully severed from the neck using a small blade, such as a knife," O'Connor adds. "This was used to cut through the throat and between the vertebrae and has left a cluster of fine cut marks on the bone."

Discovered at Heslington, Yorkshire, in the United Kingdom, O'Connor suspects that the site served a ceremonial function that persisted from the Bronze Age through the early Roman period.

Many pits found at the site were marked with single stakes. The remains of the man were also without a body. Scientists also found the headless body of a red deer that had been deposited into a channel.

Laser imaging, chemical analysis and other examinations revealed that the brain naturally preserved over the millennia. The scientists described the brain tissue as being "odorless . with a resilient, tofu-like texture."

"In the air, even in the chill of a hospital mortuary, brain tissue very quickly decays to liquid before muscle and other soft tissues show much evidence of decay," O'Connor said.

O'Connor and her colleagues suggest that a remarkable series of events led to the organ's preservation. Shortly after the man was killed, his head must have been placed, or fallen into, the waterlogged pit that was free of oxygen.

It must be noted that while other soft human body parts may not preserve well under such conditions, the wet environment appears to be perfect for keeping brains fresh "due to the very different chemistry of brain tissue," O'Connor said.

The investigation is the first in-depth study of other prehistoric human brains and soft human tissues discovered by scientists. They include the body of the 5,000-year-old Tyrolean "Ice Man," the Inca mummies of the high Andes, the tanned bog bodies from across Northern and Western Europe, good condition bodies sealed in lead coffins.

Two aspects of the new study are being heralded as "notable."

"First," he said, "such preservation is testimony to the amazing preservation in wet sites. Truly amazing things come out of the muck," Glen Doran, chair of the anthropology department at Florida State University says.

"The second, he added, "is the absolutely stellar analysis brought to bear on this special find."
