Man, 19, beaten by two groups of students downtown - baltimoresun.com: A 19-year-old student from Baltimore Polytechnic High School told police he was beaten by two separate groups of juveniles in downtown Baltimore on Thursday afternoon, an attack that comes amid a pitched debate over downtown safety.

According to police, the student was walking in the 200 block of W. Fayette St., a block north of the First Mariner Arena, before 4:20 p.m. when he said he was attacked from behind by an unknown male. Nine other juveniles joined in as he tried to defend himself, and his phone was taken during the attack, he told police.

‘Exorcist’ Author Prepares Canon Lawsuit to Cut Georgetown’s Ties to Catholic Church: The canon lawsuit is being prepared following an unprecedented reprimand by the Archbishop of Washington D.C., Cardinal Donald Wuerl, of the university and its first lay president, Dr. John DeGioia, for inviting HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to speak at a diploma ceremony Friday.

Secretary Sebelius has advanced the HHS mandate, which is part of ObamaCare, that forces Catholic-affiliated organizations, charities, schools, and hospitals to provide free contraceptives, sterilization procedures, and abortion-inducing drugs to their employees. In addition, Sebelius has been a proponent of late-term abortion and supporter of the murdered late-term abortionist, Dr. George Tiller.

Senator questions $18B for job training, as study suggests rampant waste, abuse | Fox News

Senator questions $18B for job training, as study suggests rampant waste, abuse | Fox News: A study commissioned by Sen. Tom Coburn is casting doubt on whether taxpayers' $18 billion annual investment in federal jobs training programs is paying off.

"The vast majority of money we spend in job training doesn't go to job training, it goes to employ people in those job training federal programs," Coburn told Fox News.

The 2011 Government Accountability Office study he commissioned, which examined programs in fiscal year 2009, found an overlapping and duplicative maze of 47 federal jobs programs run by nine agencies. Some were rife with mismanagement, waste, fraud, abuse and corruption.

Seven deadly sins - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Seven deadly sins - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: In the Book of Proverbs (Mishlai), King Solomon stated that the Lord specifically regards "six things the Lord hateth, and the seventh His soul detesteth." namely:[4]

A proud look.
A lying tongue.
Hands that shed innocent blood.
A heart that devises wicked plots.
Feet that are swift to run into mischief.
A deceitful witness that uttereth lies.
Him that soweth discord among brethren.

Seven deadly sins - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Seven deadly sins - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: To Catholics the seven deadly sins do not belong to an additional category of sin. Rather, they are the sins that are seen as the origin ("capital" comes from the Latin caput, head) of the other sins. A "deadly sin" can be either venial or mortal, depending on the situation; but "they are called 'capital' because they engender other sins, other vices."

Leaders of the Iowa Department of Education failed to fulfill promises made in exchange for more than $17.6 million in federal money to improve six of the state’s poorest performing schools, according to a report from the U.S. Department of Education.
Federal officials found the state did not hold the Des Moines and Waterloo districts accountable in how they used the School Improvement Grant funds to reform schools. The six schools — four in Des Moines and two in Waterloo — were to submit annual reports to the state Education Department to show they were meeting the requirements for the competitive grant money

Evolution Of Obama's Gay Marriage Stance | The Onion - America's Finest News Source

Last week, President Obama announced he is now in favor of gay marriage and said his stance had evolved over the past two years. Here are some of the evolutionary stages of Obama's opinion:

  • Nov. 30, 2008: The president is so moved by the film Milk that he decides to watch all of Sean Penn's other movies
  • Oct. 21, 2009: Sees Dick Cheney on television criticizing the administration's Afghanistan policy, thinks the former vice president might be a little happier if his daughter were married
  • November 23, 2009: Stops using the word "gay" to describe Vice President Biden's opinion on foreign affairs
  • Apr. 15, 2010: Is touched by impassioned letter from Rip Taylor saying that his final goal in life is to throw confetti at his own wedding
  • Oct. 14, 2010: After years of resistance, Obama finally starts to get into the Scissor Sisters
  • Apr. 3, 2011: Obama struggles with his position, his conscience saying, "Demand equality for gays now," and his poll numbers saying, "Wait for some more old withered bigots to die off first"
  • Apr. 26, 2012: 10-year-old daughter Sasha explains to him that gay marriage is uncontroversial for the vast majority of young people and, in 20 years, opposing it will seem to them as inexplicable as supporting segregation
  • May 8, 2012: Vice President Joe Biden sticks his head into Oval Office and asks, "What the fuck are you afraid of?"

Allen West for Congress - Liberal Distractions From Their Failed Economic Policies

Allen West for Congress - Liberal Distractions From Their Failed Economic Policies: On my way back from Washington last week I was reading the newspaper and like many times before, I was struck by just how desperate President Obama and Washington liberals are to change the subject from issues like the economy, gas prices, home foreclosures and the skyrocketing cost of groceries and everyday households items, to divisive social issues like gay marriage and thoroughly dishonest claims of a war on women. It seems like just about every week the liberals and their media allies try to change the subject while putting the best spin, however unbelievable, on the state of our economy and our nation.

They can try to divide us along racial, ethnic, religious and economic lines, but it does not change the fact that their policies are failing Americans of all ages, genders, sexual orientations, races and incomes.

Take a look at these national economic indicators from Inauguration Day 2009 to April 2012.

Maxwell's demon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: In the philosophy of thermal and statistical physics, Maxwell's demon is a thought experiment created by the physicist James Clerk Maxwell to "show that the Second Law of Thermodynamics has only a statistical certainty".[1] It demonstrates Maxwell's point by hypothetically describing how to violate the Second Law: a container is divided into two parts by an insulated wall, with a door that can be opened and closed by what came to be called "Maxwell's demon". The demon opens the door to allow only the "hot" molecules of gas to flow through to a favoured side of the chamber, causing that side to gradually heat up while the other side cools down, thus decreasing entropy.

The Cost of ObamaCare: Matheson’s Medical Device Tax is Sending Jobs Overseas
By Supporting ObamaCare, Matheson Paves Way for a Tax That Leads to Outsourcing, Higher Costs and Less Innovation

WASHINGTON --
- ObamaCare’s medical device tax, set to go into effect next year, is fulfilling Jim Matheson’s commitment to his party’s limitless spending addiction and job-killing agenda. The tax falls under Matheson’s healthcare overhaul and is threatening to increase healthcare costs, crush medical innovation and has already forced employers to outsource jobs.

“Utah families deserve a healthcare system that is modern, encourages job growth and isn’t forcing the national debt to spiral out-of-control,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “However, Jim Matheson’s refusal to stand up against ObamaCare and for his constituents is proof that he would rather sacrifice quality care and burden future generations with astronomical debt than break with his party’s failed agenda.”

According to the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed), the costs of Matheson’s big-government takeover of healthcare would be up to 39,000 jobs and $8 billion in economic productivity:

“A $3 billion hit on the medical device industry — roughly the effect of the healthcare reform law's industry tax — would cost nearly 39,000 jobs and more than $8 billion in economic output, according to a new report released Monday by the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed).”
(Julian Pecquet, “Medical Device Makers Decry Cost of Tax,”
The Hill, 3/26/2012)
Even though the new burdensome tax hasn’t even been implemented yet, it is already responsible for companies laying off American workers and outsourcing jobs:
“Cook Medical is no longer planning to open a U.S. factory a year. Boston Scientific, planning for a more than $100 million charge against earnings in 2013, recently built a $35 million research and development facility in Ireland and is building a $150 million factory in China. (Capital goes where it is welcome and stays where it is well-treated.) Stryker Corp., based in Michigan, blames the tax for 1,000 layoffs. Zimmer, based in Indiana, is laying off 450 and taking a $50 million charge against earnings. Medtronic expects an annual charge against earnings of $175 million. Covidien, now based in Ireland, has cited the tax in explaining 200 layoffs and a decision to move some production to Costa Rica and Mexico.” (George Will, “Taxing Jobs Out of Existence,” The Washington Post, 5/9/2012)

Einstein once said, 'The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.'

"You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and independence.
You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves."

President Obama's Frenzied Spending Caused A Feeble Recovery - Forbes

President Obama's Frenzied Spending Caused A Feeble Recovery - Forbes: Would you happily sign an IOU for $126,000 to allow Barack Obama to keep his Big Spender status going? In some ways, that’s the bottom line on how people are going to vote on November 6th. That’s what the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates Obama’s proposed deficits, from 2011 through 2020, will add to a family of four’s share of America’s liabilities.

What do you get in return for a tab of that size? According to Grover Norquist and John Lott, Jr.’s new book, Debacle, you get higher unemployment, reduced economic growth and depressed housing prices.

AP: Big government spending programs are turning out to have the opposite effect « The IUSB Vision Weblog

Today the AP is saying exactly what we and others who understand economics and economic history have told you since before the election. Big bailouts and government spending and regulation fervor doesn’t work, it slows economic growth and it undermines investor confidence. Unfortunately only about 20% of economists truly understand economics as it takes the ability to spot and recognize patterns in what appears to be chaos.
This kind of stuff did not work during the great depression and it’s not working now [1, 2, 3, 4].The economy went soaring after the soldiers came home and government spending dropped by 2/3′s. While there was a great deal of spending during WWII, the non-military producing private sector continued to shrink until 1946.

Associated Press:
The Federal Reserve announced a $1.2 trillion plan three months ago designed to push down mortgage rates and breathe life into the housing market.

But this and other big government spending programs are turning out to have the opposite effect. Rates for mortgages and U.S. Treasury debt are now marching higher as nervous bond investors fret about a resurgence of inflation.

That’s the Catch-22 threatening to make an awful housing market potentially worse and keep the economy stuck in a funk. Kick-starting the economy requires higher spending, but rising rates mean fewer Americans will be able to refinance their home loans. And some potential buyers will be shut out of the market by higher monthly payments they won’t be able to afford.

To understand how this is all connected, you have to think like a bond trader. Inflation is their enemy because it means the purchasing power of the dollars they receive when bonds eventually are paid off will be diminished. The only question is by how much.

Green Agenda In Disarray As German Chancellor Fires Environment Minister

Green Agenda In Disarray As German Chancellor Fires Environment Minister: The fact that Angela Merkel allowed one of her closest confidants to fall shows that “the crisis in the coalition has now penetrated the innermost core,” said the General Secretary of the Social Democrats (SPD) Andrea Nahles. Röttgen had failed not only as the top CDU candidate in North Rhine Westphalia, “but also as the federal environment minister in Berlin responsible for the implementation of the green energy transition,” Nahles added. SPD deputy Ulrich Kelber suggested: “We are now probably going to see how the government will blame Röttgen in the cheapest way for totally botched energy policies.” He feared that “those who never wanted a green energy transition will now be getting the upper hand even more.” –-Die Welt, 16 May 2012

Newcomen steam engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: The atmospheric engine invented by Thomas Newcomen in 1712, today referred to as a Newcomen steam engine (or simply Newcomen engine), was the first practical device to harness the power of steam to produce mechanical work.[1] Newcomen engines were used throughout Britain and Europe, principally to pump water out of mines, starting in the early 18th century. James Watt's later Watt steam engine was an improved version of the Newcomen engine. For this, Watt is better known in association with the origin of the steam engine today.

Amon Amarth - Thousand Years Of Opression Lyrics

Amon Amarth - Thousand Years Of Opression Lyrics

He hung on the windswept world tree
Whose roots no one knows
For nine whole days he hung there pierced
By Gugnir, his spear

Swimming in pain he peered into the depths

And cried out in agony
Reaching out he grasped the runes
Before falling back from the abyss

He gave himself unto himself

In a world of sheering pain
Go that we all may live our lives
By the wisdom that he gained

You doubted him, and spread their lies

Across the world, with sword in hand
You raped our souls, and stole our right
All for the words of mild-mannered man

You listened to mild-mannered god

And put your faith in deceitful words
Your powertrip was paid by blood
In kindness' name you spilled our blood

I refuse to submit

To the god you say is kind
I know what's right, and it is time
It's time to fight, and free our minds

Let me die without fear!

As I have lived without it
So shut your mouth and spare my ears
I'm fed up with all your bullshit

After a thousand years of oppression

Let the berserks rise again
Let the world hear these words once more:
"Save us, oh lord, from the wrath of the Norseman"

Our spirits were forged in snow and ice

To bend like steel forged over fire
We were not made to bend like reed
Or turn the other cheek

He grasped the runes, they're ours to use

"Hardball" host Chris Matthews made a less-than-impressive showing on "Jeopardy!" last night, a bomb-fest that was extra hilarious considering the many, many times he's said Sarah Palin would struggle on the show. Matthews looked confused and outmatched on the "Power Players" episode, which also featured former White House press secretary (and eventual winner) Robert Gibbs and CNN reporter Lizzie O'Leary. He shouted out answers when it wasn't his turn and flunked basic arithmetic -- saying Istanbul fit the category of "6-Letter Capitals." Matthews came in third. There was no fourth.

The Obama campaign’s heroic lack of self-awareness « I have the conch!

The Obama campaign’s heroic lack of self-awareness « I have the conch!

In a display of truly heroic lack of self-awareness, the Obama campaign has been claiming that Romney’s proposed tax cuts will add $5 Trillion to the national debt.  Yes, the man that has added more than $5 Trillion to the debt while still in his first term is telling you not to vote for Romney because he thinks Romney will add $5 Trillion to the debt.  It’s truly a wonder to behold.
And besides the open-handed, slap-you-full-on-square-in-the-middle-of-your-face irony, there’s also the lack the economic understanding.  If tax cuts add so much to the debt, somebody should tell that to the biggest tax-cutters of the 20th century, Warren Harding and Calvin Coolidge.  During the Harding/Coolidge Administrations was the last time the national debt consistently decreased.
Despite what we commonly hear, the debt increased every year under Clinton.  They technically balanced the budget for a few years, but that was by not including things in the budgets.  The national debt deceased a few time in the 40′s and 50′s (56, 55, 50, 47, 46), but it decreased every single year under Harding and Coolidge – from $22.9 Billion in 1921 to $16.9 Billion in 1929.
Harding and Coolidge cut the top tax rate from 70% to 25%.  So….I guess my point is that Obama is dumb.

Sink with California - The Editors - National Review Online

Sink with California - The Editors - National Review Online: California is in desperate fiscal straits, facing a nearly unbridgeable deficit of $16 billion, the result of spending that continues to exceed estimates and tax revenue that fails to meet them. Those in better-governed states who are tempted to sniff at the Golden State’s comeuppance, however, should bear in mind that California’s position as a national trendsetter is still quite secure: What is happening in California is very likely to happen in other states — and possibly at the federal level — if action is not taken. There are lessons here for both the Left and the Right, and those who would not sink with California as it falls into a sea of red ink would do well to study them.

Homeland Security stalls Florida effort to purge illegal aliens from voter registration rolls | Conservative Outpost: The Department of Homeland Security is stonewalling Florida’s effort to clean up its voting rolls 12 years after George W. Bush won the state’s electoral votes by a razor-thin margin.

The state asked DHS in September to check the citizenship of 180,000 registered people who have Florida driver licenses but may not be citizens, Chris Cate, communications director for the Florida Department of State, told The Daily Caller.

Obama’s Bad Businessmen | Washington Free Beacon

Obama’s Bad Businessmen | Washington Free Beacon: The president’s most famous business supporters face financial losses, scandals

A slew of left-wing business moguls are on the skids thanks to poor
investment decisions, questionable judgment, and accusations of bribery
and cronyism.

Warren Buffett
has lent his star power and his surname to President Barack Obama’s
push for higher taxes, but his firm and its shareholders have not fared
well during the Obama administration. Berkshire Hathaway has
underperformed the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index by an average of eight percent over the past three years.

Buffett is not the only famous presidential supporter to fall from business grace.

Television titan Oprah Winfrey appears to have lost the golden touch
that helped make her the richest self-made women in America and propelled Barack Obama from up-and-coming Illinois senator to the nation’s first black president.

Bloomberg News reported earlier this month that the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) may have lost as much as $330 million  since its launch due to poor ratings and lackluster demand.

Winfrey may be the most famous loser among Obama’s backers at the moment, but she is not the biggest.

Hedge-fund billionaire Philip Falcone has driven telecommunications company LightSquared into Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
The Federal Communications Commission in February revoked its
conditional approval of the LightSquared’s broadband wireless network
project due to projected interference with GPS technology used by the
military.

The Daily Caller reported at the time
that the company received preferential treatment from the FCC with
favorable regulatory decisions. Falcone offered to resign in April from
the company’s board in exchange for short-term debt forgiveness.

Jeffrey Katzenberg, Obama’s largest campaign contributor, has also found himself embroiled in a bribery scandal.
The SEC is investigating whether DreamWorks bribed Chinese officials in
exchange for the right to produce and distribute DreamWorks films in
that country. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Vice President Joe
Biden joined Katzenberg as he signed an agreement to open a new facility
in Shanghai.

Katzenberg attended George Clooney’s $16 million Hollywood fundraiser for Obama last week.

The tally of embattled businessman extends past politics into the nonprofit sector.

Chesapeake Energy and its CEO, Aubrey McClendon, have pumped millions of dollars into green lobbies
to market natural gas as a cleaner alternative to coal energy,
including $26 million toward the Sierra Club’s “beyond coal” campaign.

McClendon’ business has foundered while he has poured money into
politics. The company was under investigation in March by the Justice
Department for violations of the Clean Water Act. Reuters reported in April that McLendon has borrowed approximately $1.1 billion over the past three years in personal loans, including an undisclosed loan from a member of Chesapeake’s board.

Investors are calling for the CEO’s head after reports that McLendon was allowed to personally invest in the company’s oil wells. Chesapeake stock plummeted 13.8 percent on Friday, after a 38 percent plunge during the month of April.

Chesapeake is now turning to a vocal Obama critic to save the company from itself.

The Wall Street Journal reported Monday at midday that McLendon said he “wouldn’t be surprised” if billionaire Carl Icahn disclosed a large stake in Chesapeake.

“I don’t normally get involved in politics, but this time I am,” Icahn told an investors conference in 2008. “I don’t think Obama really understands economics … he would be a terrible president.”

Chesapeake’s value jumped 9.05 percent Monday after McLendon discussed Icahn’s speculated position in the company.

Obama Drops His Name Into the Other Presidential Biographies « Commentary Magazine: The Heritage Foundation’s Rory Cooper tweeted that Obama had casually dropped his own name into Ronald Reagan’s official biography on www.whitehouse.gov, claiming credit for taking up the mantle of Reagan’s tax reform advocacy with his “Buffett Rule” gimmick. My first thought was, he must be joking. But he wasn’t—it turns out Obama has added bullet points bragging about his own accomplishments to the biographical sketches of every single U.S. president since Calvin Coolidge (except, for some reason, Gerald Ford).

Blog: Dear Barry: About that Bain Capital attack ad...

Blog: Dear Barry: About that Bain Capital attack ad...: First, the irony of ironies. Obama excoriates Romney's record at the private equity firm and then calmly attends a fundraiser put on for him by...private equity firms.

Breathtaking.

But then, there's a slight problem with his attack ad.

Robert Costa:

As Katrina reports, Mitt Romney left Bain Capital in 1999 to manage the Winter Olympics, two years before GST Steel declared bankruptcy. But that hasn't stopped President Obama from blaming him for the company's 2001 collapse. In a new Obama campaign video, ex-steel workers criticize Romney for being "out of touch" with the "average working person." Left unmentioned (and blameless) is Jonathan Lavine.

Lavine, according to the Los Angeles Times, is a top Obama bundler and a managing director at Bain Capital. Lavine, who has raised over $100,000 for the president, was at the firm when GST Steel declared bankruptcy. So according to the Obama team's logic, Romney, who had left Bain, is responsible for GST Steel's demise, but Lavine, who was there, is not? Expect to hear more about this connection.

We've got to elect Romney president. If he can affect the fortunes of a company two years after his departure from the helm, just think of what he can do remotely to terrorists?

PJ Media » Social Security’s Implosion Continues

PJ Media » Social Security’s Implosion Continues: .
An indicator of just how seriously the federal government’s financial situation has deteriorated (combined of course with the establishment press’s clear desire to emphasize “news” which might assist Dear Leader’s reelection effort) is that the dismal 2012 report released by the Social Security system’s trustees on April 23 received little attention. Viewed through that perverse prism, cash deficits which “will average about $66 billion between 2012 and 2018 before rising steeply,” even before considering the $110 billion or so taken from “general (non-existent) revenues” during 2011 and 2012 to make up for the payroll tax cut, pale in comparison to the importance of higher priorities — like working up a 5,400-word report riddled with errors and distortions on what Mitt Romney was doing when he was a teenager.
The sad, under-reported truth is that three years into an alleged “recovery,” the long-term outlook for Social Security continues to crumble at an accelerating rate.
It’s a crackup which was decades in the making. That’s because the government has scandalously used Social Security’s annual surpluses to fund the rest of its operations since President Lyndon Johnson began “including Social Security and all other trust funds in a ‘unified budget’” in the 1960s. Social Security’s so-called “Trust Funds” consist of nothing more than stacks of IOUs from the rest of a dangerously indebted government.
During fiscal 2007, a mere five years ago, the system ran a cash surplus, as tax collections exceeded benefits paid and administrative costs by $186 billion. With the wave of baby boomer retirements looming on the horizon, everyone knew that these large annual surpluses couldn’t and wouldn’t last. In their 2008 report covering calendar 2007, the trustees projected that the system would begin paying out more in benefits than it collected in taxes in 2017; at that point, the rest of the government would have to start making up the difference.
Instead, annual surpluses virtually vanished just two years later, thanks to the onset of the POR (Pelosi-Obama-Reid) economy in roughly June of 2008. The Democratic Party’s permissive home lending-driven, securities fraud-enabled recession, followed by the Obama administration’s failure to choose policies which would have hastened a genuine recovery and acceptably grown the economy, brought things to a head with Social Security that much sooner. In the 2010 Trustees Report on 2009 results, tax collections were only $3 billion greater than benefits paid. 2010 went into the red by $49 billion, while 2011, after taking the payroll tax-cut reimbursements into account, had a deficit of $45 billion. After the 2012-2018 shorfalls cited earlier, annual cash deficits are projected to head quickly into the land of triple digits. If the economy doesn’t start generating significant growth and job creation, they might even arrive as quickly as the first cash deficits.
A few years ago, the Social Security system going cash-negative, especially so quickly, might have triggered the recognition of a widely acknowledged crisis. I thought it would be treated as one in a column three years ago. It hasn’t happened, even though its legitimacy as a genuine crisis is beyond reasonable dispute. Why not? I see only two reasons: A profoundly far-left Democratic administration, and a supportive and at least as far-left establishment press. This tipping point could not have occurred in a Republican or conservative presidential administration without the press and the left going into hysterics. If Barack Obama loses in November, I expect that the crisis will magically move to the front burner.
The left’s abandonment of anything resembling common sense is proceeding at a rate at least as fast as the nation’s fiscal meltdown. An ever-shrinking pool of liberals understands the basic notion that the perpetuation of their precious entitlement programs depends on a consistently robust economy to generate the tax collections necessary for its funding. Yet those who most vocally applaud the breakneck expansions of food stamps, wish to return to the traditional incentive-barren welfare as we once knew it before its reform in the mid-1990s, and most of all praise the inevitable cradle-to-grave control of health care inherent in ObamaCare, are among those who attack the nation’s successful job and taxable income creators the most stridently. Where’s the money for all of this government largesse going to come from if productive people — more properly phrased, if even more of them than have done so already — decide that working hard isn’t worth it?
Bill Clinton, for all his considerable and impeachable faults, understood the fundamental importance of having a strong economy. That understanding enabled him to let go of HillaryCare in 1994, and ultimately convinced him after a great deal of kicking and screaming into acquiescing to welfare reform. These moves, combined with an ineffective opponent, ensured his reelection in 1996. Clinton signed on to a capital gains tax cut in 1997 and signed off on the GOP Congress’s balanced budget plan formulated by then-Ohio Congressman John Kasich and pushed through by then-House Speaker Newt Gingrich. For better or worse (I believe worse, but that’s for another day in another column), the booming economy which followed saved Clinton’s presidency in 1999.
Barack Obama, his administration, and his core supporters either don’t understand the importance of having a strong economy, or don’t care to. If it’s the former, they’re merely dumber than a box of rocks and really believe that their regime of reckless spending, rhetorical excess, and regulatory overreach will be consequence-free in the long run.
It’s far more probable that Obama and his inner circle know full well that they are wrecking the very entitlement programs they profess to love so dearly. They have convinced themselves that when it all falls apart and after the dust settles, they’ll have their hands more firmly on the levers of power, which to them seems to be all that really matters. We obviously can’t afford to test that belief, and we’re running out of opportunities to prevent it.

After Repeatedly Mocking Palin for What She'd Do on 'Jeopardy!' Matthews Comes In Last | NewsBusters.org: With the category "Law and Order," the answer was, "A U.S.D.C is one of these, charged with the jurisdiction of a specific region."

Matthews responded, "What is a U.S. attorney?"

And this guy has the nerve to ridicule anyone. Where do you find "attorney" in the acronym "U.S.D.C.?"

Obviously, the correct response was district court.

Then, in the same category, another answer was, "In 1986, the Supreme Court ruled that the 'hostile environment' type of this can be sex discrimination."

Matthews responded, "What is a hostile workplace?"

So this brainiac thinks the same word can be in both the answer AND the question.

Of course, the correct response was sexual harassment.

And then the fun really began in the category "6-Letter World Capitals" with the answer, "St. Basil's Cathedral is there."

Readers are once again reminded the category was "6-Letter World Capitals."

Almost astonishingly, the pompous and holier-than-thou Matthews responded, "What is Istanbul?"

The correct response - containing six letters and not eight! - was Moscow.

Occupy Denver Hates Small Business « Narrative Fail!

Occupy Denver Hates Small Business « Narrative Fail!: As it happens one of those businesses was a small business eatery called “Snooze” which employs homeless people in Denver and low income individuals as a means of providing themwith at least two meals a day and a paycheck (plus gratuity). Today Occupy Denver set out to picket the eatery for their participation in the camping ban denouncing them as anti-homeless, anti-American and unethical business practices. What was Snooze’s response? They served Occupiers food and gave them coffee then told themto go bark up another tree.

This morning the owners were greeted with fifty protesters outside their business slinging accusations at them that they are anti-homeless, want the homeless to die and are nazis. Two hours into the protest “someone” from outside the restaurant spread a rumor to the local homeless community that Snooze was offering free food to people that morning. What cruel vicious people Occupiers can be.

This highlights a growing vengeance mentality of Occupy and one that is uniquely cult-like. Attack our cult (or movement) and we will attack you, as venomously and as viciously as we know how and if we can, we’ll financially hurt you.

Kayleigh McEnany - JIM HUNT: Obama Lies

Kayleigh McEnany - JIM HUNT: Obama Lies

There was this brilliant video I saw from Bill Whittle on PJTV.com, which I feel is the best indictment of President Obama, illustrating why he does not deserve a second term. The link to the video is here.
My goal for this election is to get more conservatives elected to the House, take over the Senate, and help Mitt Romney win in November. I thought this video was so brilliant that I wanted to show all my friends, every conservative, and every person that is on the fence.
It got me thinking of the top 10 Obama lies we’ve heard recurrenlty over the last three years. Here they are:
10. It’s Bush’s fault- Certainly we all know and disagree with some things that Bush did during his final days in office. But no one with a brain would say everything was his fault–especially now, three years later.
9. The economic recovery- There is NO recovery. There are simply more people dropping out of the workforce who are no longer counted in the unemployment rate.  There are parts of the country (not ironically they are all red states) where jobs are being created, but that has nothing to do with Obama, and that’s not a national recovery.
8. The war on women- There is no war on women. Republicans don’t oppose women.  We don’t oppose birth control.  What we oppose is having others pay for birth control and abortions… STOP THE SPIN.
7. The Buffett Rule- Warren Buffett does not pay more in taxes than his secretary; that’s an outright lie. The fact is that Buffett lives mostly off his investments, and the capital gains are taxed at 15%. Even liberal economists believe that if you raise capital gains to 30% it would be disastrous for the American economy.
6. The Republicans are not willing to negotiate- A Wall Street Journal article recently published stated that during the debt ceiling debate, Boehner and McConnell were willing to negotiate and close tax loopholes to raise revenue, and Obama wouldn’t go for it so that he could earn political leverage.
Obama shooting during a game with Cabinet secretaries and congressmen on the White House basketball court, Oct. 8, 2009
5. Our borders are secure- It’s true that illegal border crossings have decreased, but that’s not because of Obama; it’s because of the bad economy. Anyone who lives in a border state would tell you that the border isn’t even close to being secure.
4. Women make less on the dollar than men- This is simply not true. Even when Obama signed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, it later came out that Ledbetter lied about her pay.
3. There will be no lobbyists in my administration- Just Google “lobbyists in the Obama administration,” and it will tell you all the lobbyists in his cabinet.
2. I’m the fourth best president in history- Obama is such a narcissist; he thinks he rests among the greatest presidents of all time and comes close to Abe Lincoln. I laugh at that because he also puts FDR on that list, and FDR was one of the worst.
1. I will not sign a healthcare bill that will add a dime to the deficit – A recent CBO estimate stated that Obamacare will add about $500b to the deficit.
I remember during the Bush administration, all I heard was how arrogant Bush was. But as you watch Bill Whittle’s video, you will come to realize the arrogance, the narcissism of this man currently occupying the White House. I can’t wrap my head around how anyone could vote for him.
This is our call to action: Now that we have a presumptive nominee, it’s time for us to take up our intellectual arms and remove Obama from office. Are you ready for this election?
My advice is to tell your friends that are on fence about this video. Let them know the truth about Obama, Holder, Geithner, Pelosi, Reid, and the others. They are destroying this country from the inside, and it’s time to send them packing.
Jim is the host of the Jim Hunt Show at jimhuntshow.com, and the owner of Jurat Legal Solutions, LLC. A recovering Democrat, Jim worked on several democratic campaigns, and interned at the California State Senate. He said the best thing to ever happen to was growing up a Democrat, big government, public employee union supporter- because now- he knows exactly how liberals think.

Chasing the American Dream: Recent College Graduates and the Great Recession

A new national survey by The John J. Heldrich Center for Workforce Development at Rutgers University found that a large percentage of recent college graduates are far from a secure career path with a full time job and benefits.
graduates with caps
Young college graduates are insecure about their preparation for a competitive workforce. Half of them feel they are likely less well prepared for the world of work than was the generation before them.
The report, Chasing the American Dream: Recent College Graduates and the Great Recession, reflects the results of interviews with 444 graduates of four-year colleges and universities from the classes of 2006 through 2011. The report documents the difficulties young people encountered as they entered a labor market that eventually plunged into a deep recession in 2008. Three in four were able to find at least one full-time job since graduation. But at the time of the survey in April, only 51 percent were working full time, 20 percent were attending graduate or professional school and 12 percent were either unemployed or employed part time and looking for full-time work.
“Students who graduated during the past several years are facing historic obstacles in achieving the foundations of the American dream and express low expectations for their future prosperity,” said Carl Van Horn, Professor and Director of the Heldrich Center and a co-author of the study. “The resilience of this year’s and recent college graduates are being tested as they struggle with student debt, a slow job market that offers few toe-holds in their chosen careers, and nagging fears about a lack of preparation for global labor market competition.”
College graduates who obtained their first job during the recession in 2009-2011 earned 10 percent less in their starting salaries compared to those who entered the workforce in 2006 and 2007 — $27,000 versus $30,000. Men earned an average of $30,000 compared with $28,000 for women graduates.
The report offered some good news for students who completed internships during college. Those graduates earned nearly 15 percent more on average than those who did not. Graduates who completed internships also felt better prepared in certain skills areas, such as leadership, written and verbal communications, and quantitative skills.
Among those who are now employed, the median salary for jobs that require a four-year degree is $37,750 compared to $32,000 for jobs that do not require a four-year degree.
Given their experiences — with 4 in 10 working in jobs that did not require a four-year degree — it is understandable that almost two-thirds either think they will need more education or have already gone back to school.
Young college graduates are also insecure about their preparation for a competitive workforce. Half of them feel they are likely less well prepared for the world of work than was the generation before them.
The graduates’ employment struggles and modest earnings are also affecting both their ability to pay off the debts they incurred to finance their college education — a median of $18,690 at public colleges and $24,460 at private colleges — and influence their personal choices.
More than one in four are living with their parents or family members to save money and significant numbers of recent college graduates are delaying major purchases, putting offer their graduate education, taking extra jobs to supplement their income, and even delaying marriage. Many recent graduates who move out from their parents homes continue receive family support for housing, food, healthcare, college loan repayments, and car payments, the survey found.
“The cream of the crop of America’s youth, graduates of four-year colleges and universities, believe the American dream of upward mobility may have stopped with them,” commented Cliff Zukin, Professor and co-author of the study. “Young, well-educated people, who are typically optimistic about their futures, are expressing doubt in another cornerstone of the American dream — that each generation can enjoy more prosperity than the one that came before it.”

Obama’s New Attack Ad, Already Debunked - By Jim Geraghty - The Campaign Spot - National Review Online

Obama’s New Attack Ad, Already Debunked - By Jim Geraghty - The Campaign Spot - National Review Online

The new Obama ad hits Mitt Romney for the closure of GST Steel after its purchase by Bain Capital, Romney’s former financial firm.
Romney’s departure from Bain: 1999.
GST Bankruptcy Filing and layoffs: 2001. (Dan Margolies, “Shutdown Is End Of An Era,” The Kansas City Star, 2/8/01)
The Washington Post’s Fact-Checker, discussing earlier Obama attacks that used the same technique – blaming Romney for decisions his old firm made after he left:
Notice a problem with the last two examples? The outsourcing occurred in 2000 and 2001. Romney left Bain in early 1999.
We’ve gone over this problem with the Obama campaign before, awarding three Pinocchios to a January memo the team released blaming Romney for job losses and bad deals that took place after the former executive had stopped working for Bain.
We discovered that Romney’s name appeared on Bain SEC filings between 1999 and 2002. But a 2002 statement the former executive filed with the Massachusetts State Ethics Commission said he was a “passive, limited partner [with] no management capacity” in the Bain entities in which he held ownership.
We also learned that the creditors who sued some of Bain’s companies and executives over dividend payments around the time in question did not name Romney in their lawsuit. Plaintiffs generally try to list as many people as possible as defendants to encourage settlement, so it’s highly unlikely that Romney had any involvement with Bain’s businesses during this period.
These facts essentially exonerate Romney from allegations that he was responsible for any outsourcing, bad deals and layoffs that occurred with Bain’s companies in the early 2000s.
The Post gave Obama “Three Pinocchios” for the attack. The efforts of “fact-checking” blogs, web-sites, etc., seem rather Sisyphean when they call out a candidate for making a blatantly misleading or false statement… and those candidates just keep on making the same statements.

Corporate Donors Are Paying For the DNC Through a “Special Fund” - Independent Journal Review

Corporate Donors Are Paying For the DNC Through a “Special Fund” - Independent Journal Review

Democrats have decided not to accept corporate donations for the Democratic National Convention this summer, opting instead for a more ‘grassroots’ campaign to include the middle class it has been so obviously recruiting.
However, the Wall Street Journal says “through a special fund,” planners involved with the convention are “are accepting millions of dollars in corporate contributions to help pay for many of the activities outside the convention hall – as well as some expenses directly related to the event.”
Some of the corporate donors include Wells Fargo, Bank of America, and Duke Energy Corporation.
New American City Incorporated, the fund the convention uses to accept corporate donations, has filed with the Federal Election Commission to “defray administrative expenses incurred by the host committee organizations themselves, such as salaries, rent, travel, and insurance.”
Is it just me or is it obvious that when you have to pay for a convention, you have to pay for the things that come along with it? If you say you aren’t accepting corporate donations, don’t accept corporate donations. Don’t tell me you aren’t going to accept corporate donations and then use them to “defray” costs. We aren’t stupid.
To make it even more obvious, Democrats made no move in 2008 to distinguish between activities directly or indirectly related to the convention. Corporations contributed about $40 of the $60 million raised for the convention that year.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Duke Energy, a Charlotte-based energy company, has extended a $10 million line of credit and their CEO, James Rogers, a co-chairman of the host committee, said “a lot of the money” from Duke Energy Corp. had been “given before convention planners banned corporate contributions.
It is worth noting that the host committee is a separate legal entity form the Democratic National Committee, but either way, if the party made no distinction last time, this is a political ploy. I personally don’t feel like there is anything wrong with taking money from corporations, but saying you will not be, then creating a non-profit to distribute funding to activities related to the convention is sleazy.
SHARE this article to let your friends know Democrats are accepting corporate donations even if they say they won’t.

Obama 'car czar' calls ad attacking Romney, Bain 'unfair' | The Daily Caller

Obama 'car czar' calls ad attacking Romney, Bain 'unfair' | The Daily Caller: The Obama campaign has a new two-minute ad that is aimed at former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney for his time at Bain Capital. The ad is critical of the likely Republican nominee’s role in acquiring the ailing GST Steel in Kansas City, and highlighted those that lost their job in the process.

But even one of President Barack Obama’s chief advisers is not buying it. On MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Monday, former Obama administration “car czar” Steve Rattner called the ad “unfair” and said that it wasn’t Bain’s responsibility to create or save jobs.

Book Review: New Deal or Raw Deal? How FDR's Economic Legacy Has Damaged America by Burton Folsom Jr.

Book Review: New Deal or Raw Deal? How FDR's Economic Legacy Has Damaged America by Burton Folsom Jr.: Seventy-five years have elapsed since Franklin Delano Roosevelt introduced the flurry of government programs he called the New Deal. In the years since, most historians have lavished FDR with praise, claiming that his bold leadership helped to pull America out of the Great Depression. Even those who acknowledge the failure of particular Roosevelt-era programs claim that FDR instilled hope and confidence in the American people, and that his economic failures were the result of his not going far enough in his policies and not spending enough money.

The horrific consequences of the Islamophobia witch-hunt | Melanie Phillips

The horrific consequences of the Islamophobia witch-hunt | Melanie Phillips: So now we can see the outcome of the witch-hunt against ‘Islamophobia’. With the conviction yesterday of nine men for organised sexual crimes from rape to sex trafficking, the full horrific details of more than two decades of sexual violence against young, predominantly white girls living in children’s homes in the north of England have been revealed.

The gang lured an officially estimated 47 girls (the figure may well be higher) aged 12 to 16 with gifts, alcohol and drugs before passing them around to have sex ‘with several men a day, several times a week’ in flats, houses, cars, taxis and kebab shops. After phone calls inviting them to come and have sex with a girl, men would turn up to do so by the taxi-load. One 13 year-old was forced to have sex with 20 men in one night.

Morlock - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Morlock - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: In K.W. Jeter's novel Morlock Night, the Morlocks have stolen the Time Machine and used it to invade Victorian London. These Morlocks are much more formidable than those in The Time Machine - a clever, technological race with enough power to take over the entire world. They also get support from certain treacherous 19th century humans, especially a dark wizard named Merdenne. It is also revealed that the Morlocks living in their native time (the 8,028th century) have stopped allowing the Eloi to roam free and now keep them in pens.

The Morlocks are separated into two types, or castes, in the novel. One is the short, weak, stupid Grunt Morlocks, who are supposedly the kind that the Time Traveller encountered, and the other is the Officer Morlocks, who are taller, more intelligent, speak English, and have high rank within the Morlock invasion force. An example of the latter type is Colonel Nalga, an antagonist later in the book.

These Morlocks are always described as wearing blueish spectacles, which are presumably to protect the Morlocks' sensitive, dark-adapted eyes.

Union’s pension plan targeted for criminal probe | McClatchy Tribune News Service | The Bellingham Herald

Union’s pension plan targeted for criminal probe | McClatchy Tribune News Service | The Bellingham Herald: Federal authorities have launched a criminal investigation into the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers’ pension and benefit plans, McClatchy Newspapers has learned.

The investigation began after federal agencies received anonymous complaints about mismanagement of the plans, according to court filings. The complaints included allegations that family members of some trustees received bonuses from companies that managed investments for the three funds, which total $8.5 billion. A grand jury investigation followed.

The agencies include two Department of Labor offices, one of which conducts criminal labor racketeering investigations into employee benefit plans.

“I can understand why the Department of Labor might think there’s a cause for concern,” said Gus Fields, a former attorney with the Internal Revenue Service and a leading pension fund expert. “There could be an issue here.”

Bummer. Only a “Couple Dozen” Turn Out For Obama’s Driveway Speech… Host Says She May Not Vote For Him | The Gateway Pundit

Bummer. Only a “Couple Dozen” Turn Out For Obama’s Driveway Speech… Host Says She May Not Vote For Him | The Gateway Pundit

Private meeting: President Barack Obama speaks to reporters and neighbors of Val and Paul Keller in Reno Friday afternoon after he met with the couple to privately discuss the housing crisis. The Daily Mail.
Oh, how embarrassing.  Obama recently gave a speech in the driveway of a Nevada couple’s home to a couple dozen people.  After speaking to a tiny turnout of supporters, Obama’s own host remained unimpressed… and admitted she’s not sure she’ll vote for him.
Via Bluegrass Pundit, the Daily Mail reports,
As leader of the free world President Obama will be used to making speeches to millions of people around the globe.
So he might have felt the occasion was a little beneath him yesterday when he stopped off in Reno, Nevada, to deliver an address outside a couple’s garage.
In what could be a disastrous photo opportunity for the President’s campaign, Mr Obama spoke to a handful of people in the crucial swing state.
The president’s 15 minute address outside the home of Paul and Val Keller on Friday afternoon, drew a small audience of neighbours and supporters – though even his hosts said they were not sure if they would vote for him in the coming election.
Apparently, Obama is having a hard time finding photo-ops who are, actually, voting for him.  Unless, of course, they’re multi-millionaire Hollywood Liberals.  Even his college bar fans aren’t sure if they’ll vote for him in November.

Google Shuts Down Another Conservative Blog: KSM Trial Edition: Given the company’s self-proclaimed devotion to free speech, I think Google ought to explain why it deleted the blog. If calling for the legal execution of the confessed mastermind of the murders of 3,000 people on American soil is too controversial a topic for Google Blogger, perhaps the famously progressive company should re-think its proclamation of support for the free exchange of ideas on its platforms.

I Call Bullsh*t… Lib Media Says Veterans Favor Barack Obama | The Gateway Pundit

We all know Barack Obama likes the military.
They make a good photo-op.

Then Barack Obama cut pay for military men and women serving in harm’s way and cut healthcare benefits for active duty soldiers.
Now we’re supposed to believe that America’s veterans favor Barack Obama over Republican Mitt Romney.
Reuters reported:
Mack McDowell likes to spend time at the local knife and gun show “drooling over firearms,” as he puts it. Retired after 30 years in the U.S. Army, he has lined his study with books on war, framed battalion patches from his tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, a John Wayne poster, and an 1861 Springfield rifle from an ancestor who fought in the Civil War.
But when it comes to the 2012 presidential election, Master Sergeant McDowell is no hawk.
In South Carolina’s January primary, the one-time Reagan supporter voted for Ron Paul “because of his unchanging stand against overseas involvement.” In November, McDowell plans to vote for the candidate least likely to wage “knee-jerk reaction wars.”
Disaffection with the politics of shock and awe runs deep among men and women who have served in the military during the past decade of conflict. Only 32 percent think the war in Iraq ended successfully, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll. And far more of them would pull out of Afghanistan than continue military operations there…
…If the election were held today, Obama would win the veteran vote by as much as seven points over Romney, higher than his margin in the general population.
Reuters forgot to include the polling data with the article.
